To date, in addition to honey, there are a lot of creations of the activity of bees - among them propolis, bee bread, beeswax and so on. All these products carry a lot of benefits and are widely used by people for various purposes. However, undeservedly little attention is paid to the by-product of the apiary, which is called dead, but in vain. After all, it is not only a wax raw material, but also has a whole spectrum of various vitamins, micro and macro elements, useful properties that are so necessary for any living organism.
What and how to get a bee merv
Merv belongs to the waste of processing of wax raw materials, which is obtained as a result of the digestion of pressed honeycombs after pumping out honey.
Did you know? The composition of human blood contains 24 trace elements, more than 20 of which are found in bee products.
In fact, the so-called mixture of:
- small fragments of honeycombs;
- wax caps, cocoons, and larval residues;
- honey and pollen, propolis;
- other products of life and activity of bees.
The appearance of the merva is a loose mass of small lumps, the color of which can vary from tan to black.Usually, this product is not used in its pure form - the measure is sent for processing as a wax raw material.
Types of Merva
Merv is produced in two main ways, depending on which it can be slightly modified:
- In apiary - such a product almost half consists of wax, and therefore most often goes into further processing carried out by waxworks. In the process of wax testing, a residue of liquid consistency remains - it can act as a vitamin feed for livestock, birds or plants.
- In factories - in technological processes of the industry extracts of wax from merva, various kinds of chemical solvents are usually used. The structure of the substance, at the same time, becomes sticky and loses its purity. At the exit, the wax is not more than 1/4 of the initial amount of the product.

Useful properties, application of Merva
On closer inspection, Merva, as a product of the activity of beekeeping, has a fairly broad scope. In addition to the main goal - wax production at home, this raw material, as well as the liquid substance that forms after processing, is used in traditional medicine, cosmetology and other areas of human life.
Medicine
Merv is a healing substance that is often and quite successfully used as an additional ingredient in medicines.
Important! Merv cannot completely replace medicines, and therefore it is recommended to use it only as an enhancement in the fight against various diseases.
Having antiseptic and analgesic properties, this raw material is used in many recipes of traditional medicine:
- compresses and lotions, prepared on the basis of this product, relieve inflammation and pain in diseases of the musculoskeletal system;
- used for various injuries, which contributes to the speedy healing of wounds and relieves pain;
- restores the reproductive function of the female body, and is also used in the treatment of various pathologies caused by chronic inflammation;
- It is used as a preventive measure for cardiovascular diseases, and also normalizes the work of the heart after complications due to the disease.
It is also worth noting that in modern medicine, cerase is also used - a chemically active enzyme, which is the product of the vital activity of moths, specially bred in the merv.
The results of numerous studies indicate the ability of cerase to resist pathogens such as Koch's bacillus, which causes tuberculosis, as well as E. coli.
- In addition, the enzyme substance has such useful qualities as:
- immunostimulation;
- increased metabolic rate;
- stimulation of brain activity and activity of the cardiovascular system;
- normalization of the respiratory system.

Also, this raw material is often added to the bath with water, which helps to obtain healthy, supple and radiant skin.
Hot baths with bee raw materials are also recommended for use - this procedure will help to expand and clean the pores, as well as improve blood circulation processes.
Gardening, livestock
Merv is also often used in garden plots not only as a fertilizer that can increase plant yields and shorten the ripening period of fruits, but also as a substance that can protect fruit crops from pests and various diseases.
Merva-based organic dressing can be used both in dry form, which is laid in the soil under the root of the plant, and in the form of a solution, which is applied along with watering. Also, raw materials are used in animal husbandry, where it is used as a feed for livestock and poultry.
- Regular consumption of this substance by animals significantly improves the following indicators of this branch of agriculture:
- lower costs for feed and feed mixtures by increasing the digestibility of nutrients;
- an increase in the number of healthy units of animals and birds and, accordingly, a significant reduction in death;
- increase the level of meat quality;
- increasing the stability of humoral immunity (anti-infection protection).
All these indicators lead to an increase in profit due to lower feed costs and an increase in live weight indicators of carcass age.
Did you know? To collect 100 g of honey, a bee needs to fly a distance equal to the length of the equator - 40,075.7 km.
Merv Wax
The processing of wax raw materials, which are so rich in apiaries (for example, freshly cut and fresh honeycombs, to be rejected, various cuts of wax buildings, cleanings from nesting frames or zabrus and others), is an opportunity to obtain high-quality wax at home, which helps to increase the profitability of beekeeping.
However, after re-melting the raw material, there remains a reflux, which may contain up to 50% of the wax and in order to extract it, the dead must also undergo a certain treatment.
Manufacture
The main process for extracting wax from Merva consists of three stages:
- Soak - the crushed raw materials must be placed for softening in soft water (rain or river), which will wash various contaminants from the flood. For lack of such, ordinary water with a rigid composition can be softened using vinegar (100–150 g of vinegar is added to 10 liters of water) or calcined water (1 tablespoon of soda is dissolved in 5 liters of water).
- Boiling - It is also recommended to carry out in soft water until a viscous structure is obtained, after which, in the hot state, the mixture of water and water must be squeezed out.
- Spin - In apiary conditions, small volumes of wax can be squeezed out using simple tools. For example, with the help of the “Nippers” device, which consists of two boards connected articulately. The handles of the plates, in this case, are compressed independently by hands, which leads to squeezing the bag with the boiled mass, and separation of the wax, which, under pressure, flows into a pre-prepared container. A device called “Fox”, a device consisting of a base (a small table), on one side of which a hinged board is fixed, was also widely used in this matter. It is she who compresses the bag with the boiled merv, separating the wax, which, in turn, flows through a special hole in the wax collector.

Application
Mervosk can become the basis for various mastics and greases, as well as cream for the care of leather products. The use of this substance as a shoe care product allows you to protect it from the negative effects of weather and high humidity, as well as to extend its service life in general. For such purposes, wax should be mixed with caustic soda, in proportions of 1: 5, and boiled until a viscous structure is obtained.
Important! Alkali in the form of caustic soda can adversely affect the skin of products. In order to avoid this, a small amount of rosin or gum should be introduced into the composition of Mervosk.
Possible contraindications for use
Like all beekeeping products, the use of Merva can cause an allergic reaction, and therefore start using Merva as a treatment, it should be with small doses and at the same time carefully monitor the body's reaction. Despite the rarity of cases of acute allergies, such a reaction can completely block the entire value of bee products.
A bee dead is often, unknowingly, simply thrown away by beekeepers. But the correct preparation and storage of this product makes it possible not only year-round wax production, but also the use of this raw material as fertilizers and vitamin top dressing. In addition, Merva is a whole storehouse of useful and medicinal substances that can restore and maintain health.
