Among large-fruited tomatoes, the Alsu variety immediately attracts attention with its high yield in various growing regions. Tasty and beautiful tomatoes are grown by Siberian breeders.
Characterization and description of the variety
The variety belongs to the determinant type and grows up to 80 cm in the open and in the ground and slightly higher in the greenhouse. Ripening period is 90–100 days (early ripening). The appearance of the bush and fruits is as follows:
- large fruits of a kidney-shaped or heart-shaped form;
- the skin is dense, red;
- the weight of one tomato is from 500 to 800 g;
- fleshy flesh, with a high percentage of solids;
- the taste is pronounced sweet, without acid;
- leaf drooping medium-sized bush with a thin trunk.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Tomatoes of this variety demonstrate such advantages:
- large size and excellent taste of fruits;
- good productivity in various regions;
- early ripening and marketability up to 90%;
- resistance to many diseases;
- easy care.
- Variety disadvantages include:
- weak type of bush, frailty seedlings;
- mandatory garter;
- not suitable for whole fruit preservation.
Planting and growing tomatoes at home
Variety "Alsou" does not impose special requirements for care, however, during the cultivation of seedlings and transplants, it is necessary to act with special care. Young plants have a weak stem and are easily damaged.
Important! Sowing seeds is performed 50-60 days before the intended planting in a permanent place.
Optimal growing conditions
Like all tomatoes, this variety is best grown in a sunny, open area with fertile soil composition. Up to 4 bushes are planted per square meter of beds. For a speedy harvest, plants are grown in seedlings. For cultivation in the northern regions, sowing is carried out no earlier than mid-March and provide additional lighting for seedlings. In the southern regions, the recommended dates are early March.
Tillage
For sowing seeds, you can use ready-made mixtures, which are sold in stores and garden centers. To make such a soil yourself, it is necessary to carry out preliminary processing of garden soil - one of the main ingredients of the mixture. To get rid of possible diseases and pests, choose one of these methods:
- spill the earth with a solution of potassium permanganate;
- hold the ground over steam for 7-8 minutes and then cool;
- put in the oven for 30 minutes at a temperature of +70 ... + 90 ° C;
- it is frozen several times at –15 ...– 20 ° С and thawed (2-3 days for each stage).
Did you know? Tomato seeds have the best germination for 2-3 years after harvest.
After disinfection, the earth is mixed with other components in the following proportion:
- on one part of the earth, peat and humus;
- part of rotted wood shavings.
Planting Material Processing
Seeds must be checked for external damage and the largest and most intact should be selected. Then they carry out such actions:
- soaking in a weak solution of potassium permanganate and selection for sowing those seeds that sank to the bottom;
- soaking in "Kornevin" or "Epin-extra" (growth stimulants) according to the instructions.
Sowing technology
Sowing is carried out in a container with a transparent lid or cover the box with glass. You can also use the film by pulling it on the edges of the container. Sow seeds with an interval of 2.5–3 cm to a depth of 2 cm, sprinkle with soil and pour from the sprayer with warm, settled water. Then the box is covered so that the lid does not touch the ground. Before germination, the container should be in a dry and warm place, at a temperature of +23 ... + 25 ° С.
Important! Hardening begins 7-10 days before transplantation.
Preparing for transplanting seedlings
Tomatoes are transplanted for the first time (“dive”) after the appearance of real leaves. For Alsu seedlings, picking is carried out by the transshipment method, being careful not to damage the roots and stalk. In a new place, the plant is sprinkled with earth to the cotyledon first leaves. Before planting in open ground, seedlings must be hardened so that the seedlings are accustomed to lower temperatures and the bright sun.On the first day, plants are taken outside for half an hour, and every day time is increased to full daylight hours. Seedlings should be in a windproof place and for the first time without direct sunlight. You can also use an open balcony for hardening.
Planting seedlings in a permanent place
An outdoor transplant is performed at a time when the risk of repeated frosts is minimal. For each region, this period is individual (on average, mid-May). At an earlier landing, it is necessary to carefully monitor the weather forecast and cover the plants with a film. When planting, plants with a lump of earth are transshipped into a deeper hole, sprinkled, tamped and watered with warm water.
Features of tomato care
Tomatoes "Alsou" are grown according to the standard rules of care both in open ground and in greenhouses of various designs.
Did you know? You can increase the sweetness of the fruit with an organic supplement. For this, the bush is watered ½ liter of such a solution: 1 tbsp. salt and 1 cup of ash.
Top dressing
The variety responds well to the application of mineral and organic fertilizers. For the season, it is necessary to carry out 3-4 feeding, including during the period of fruit ovary. Before flowering, nitrogen complexes are used, and after the appearance of the fruits, magnesium sulfate and superphosphate are added (according to the instructions). Mineral mixtures should also contain potassium and boron. Organic fertilizers may include solutions of ash and iodine, humus.
Watering
Watering is carried out as the top layer dries. It is desirable to defend the water, so it naturally heats up at a suitable temperature. Tomatoes are watered only under the root, trying not to get moisture on the leaves. If the bushes grow on a “bare” bed, after watering, the earth around the bush is loosened.
Stepson
Tomatoes of this type need timely pinching. New shoots in the internodes below the first brush are removed as early as possible. It is recommended to remove all lower leaves. The bush is formed in 2-3 stems.
Bush tying
Tomato "Alsou" must be tied to a reliable support. This is due to the special shape of the bush, whose stems do not keep upright, especially after pouring the fruit. As the weight increases, the hands are also tied up. Only soft materials are used for work: a rigid wire can damage the plant.
Weeding and loosening the soil
Weeding and cultivation is carried out regularly, removing all weeds. To reduce the number of work in the garden, the bushes are mulched with hay, humus or a mixture of compost with sawdust. This layer also prevents drying out of the soil and increases productivity.
Diseases and their prevention
This variety is resistant to most diseases. Preventive treatments with copper preparations, modern eco-immunomodulators, and folk remedies are recommended. To repel pests, both insecticide treatment and mixed plantings with aromatic plants (basil, parsley, marigolds, marigold) are used.
Harvesting and storage
The fruits are removed as they ripen. The dense peel and meatiness of the variety provides good transportability and a long shelf life. Ripening is possible, for which the tomatoes are left at room temperature. The neighborhood of apples that produce ethylene helps speed up the process.Alsou tomatoes are easy to grow and are suitable for most regions. The combination of large and tasty fruits with undemanding care provided the variety well-deserved popularity among gardeners.
