A shop is considered a decorative and functional element of landscape design that will decorate any summer cottage, territory, garden or park. Today, outdoor furniture is gaining more and more popularity. Everyone can choose a product of any shape, size, as well as models made of various materials. But if there is an opportunity and desire, then the best way is to make a shop yourself.
Types of shops
Today, furniture for the garden and summer cottage has many options.
Shops are usually classified according to three factors:
- characteristics;
- material;
- functionality.
Did you know? The longest bench in the world is in the city of Pazardzhik (Bulgaria). It runs 111 m and can accommodate up to 2000 people.
If we talk about the first sign, then the furniture can be:
- without or with a back;
- simple or curly;
- for two or more people;
- small or overall.
Classifying benches according to the material, we can distinguish the following options:
- wooden
- stone;
- metal;
- combined.
- for seating only;
- multifunctional.
Shop without back
Such furniture is quite common in parks, streets and garden areas. A bench without a back is a practical, inexpensive and convenient element of landscape design that can be installed almost anywhere. The manufacture of this furniture is not difficult, as it is constructed according to a simple classical drawing.
Such shops look very good in the gazebo, along the paths. You can choose a classic or oval, round or semicircular option. Figured furniture not only has an aesthetic appearance, but also performs the main function. At the center of round shops you can plant a tree, a bush or create an original flower arrangement.
A bench without a back can be made of one material or their combination (stone, wood, metal). This view is widespread due to its simplicity, as it consists only of a seat and supports. There are many variations of such benches: you can create an asymmetric design when one part of the seat protrudes beyond the legs and the other is flush with them. Also, the product without a backrest can be decorated in different styles. The only drawback of this model is the lack of the ability to relax fully, since the back is always in tension.
Did you know? Increasingly, shops with solar panels are gaining popularity in cities. Thanks to this idea, any passerby can charge a phone or other electronics in the open.
Bench with backrest
The model in question will fit perfectly into the design of any suburban area, yard or park. The classic bench with a back has a fairly simple design and, at the same time, an attractive appearance. Such furniture can be made of one material (wood, metal, brick, plastic, stone), but there are also many combined options.
The bench with backrest, although it has a more complex structure than a conventional bench, is more comfortable for long-term sitting. Often you can find simple products consisting of brushed wood. This is necessary to create the effect of antiquity and emphasize the beautiful relief of the tree. Elegant options consisting of various decorative elements and patterns are considered quite popular.
Made of wood and metal
Wood combines very well with iron. Due to their strength, metal is often made of a frame. Also, iron can serve as a decorative element in a wooden structure.
- Metal frames have many advantages:
- reliability;
- weather resistance;
- resistance to various types of damage
- The use of wood for cladding is characterized by such positive features:
- attractive, aesthetic appearance;
- a huge selection of tree varieties.
Important! Iron and wood must be treated with special moisture repellents and coatings.
You can design or purchase various options for shops:
- open;
- under a canopy;
- simple;
- with back.
Folding
This model is also called a transformer bench. It has a more complex structure, so it will be quite difficult for a beginner to make it.
There are such options for folding furniture:
- The classic model. Such a product can be transformed from a table with two benches into a bench with a back. A folded transformer takes up little space and is quite easy to fold out.
- Metal option. Despite the fact that such a model is much stronger, and the mechanism works much more clearly, it is quite difficult to create such a shop with your own hands. To do this, you must have the skills to work with a welding machine. Transformation occurs like the first option.
- Folding bench without back. This wooden model is reduced after folding for easy storage.
Dimensional standards for shops
The parameters of garden furniture can be varied. It all depends on preferences and the chosen installation location. Everyone can purchase a finished model in a specialized store, focusing on the specified parameters of the goods.
Important! If you make a bench above 0.45 m, then the legs will not reach the ground, and if below 0.3 m — you can feel the difficulty in blood circulation in the legs and their swelling.
You can also create a shop yourself, following some rules:
- The length of the furniture should depend on the number of seats. For one person it is necessary to calculate 0.6 m.
- The height of the back is not less than 0.3 m.
- The width of the bench should be from 0.3 m or more.
- The angle between the seat and the back is 105–120 °.
- The average height of the bench can reach 0.38–0.45 m.
Drawing up a drawing
After choosing a place, model, and dimensions, you must go to the next step - selecting or creating your own drawing. Finished projects can be adapted in such a way that the desired element of landscape design fits perfectly into the exterior of any site. The drawing should illustrate the dimensions of the product. Novice masters are not recommended to use complex sketches, it is better to choose classic types of products.
Designing outdoor garden furniture will allow the owner to have a general idea of the appearance of the future design, as well as visually see the features of the assembly of this model. In addition, the drawing will help orient the wizard in the amount of material needed to create a shop. The project must be drawn on a large sheet of paper. Drawings downloaded from the Internet should be clear and contain reliable measurements.
Necessary tools and materials
To make a shop, you need to stock up on inventory and equipment in the right amount. The selection of tools and materials depends on the model of furniture and its design features.
Did you know? According to archaeological data, the first arbors served as protection from the sun 20 thousand years ago, and they were built on the territory of Ancient Egypt. Large monumental structures of this type appeared a bit later in Ancient Greece and Rome, where they were decorated with expensive marble and granite.
For the construction of garden benches made of wood and metal you will need:
- Iron corner with a shelf (4 × 5 cm).
- Bar for the seat (4 cm in diameter).
- Special bolts.
- Grinder or hacksaw.
- Sandpaper or sanding machine.
- Drill.
- Welding machine.
- Screwdriver.
The simplest models for construction are ordinary wood benches.
To create them you will need:
- Wooden boards (500 cm long and 4 cm wide).
- Self-tapping screws and a screwdriver for fastening parts.
- Antiseptic agents for wood processing.
- Salt flame retardant treatment.
- Drill.
- Bulgarian.
- Sander
- Electric or chainsaw.
- Varnish or paint for finishing the product.
Stages of work
The manufacturing process of the shop must be performed step by step.
Work should be carried out according to the following stages:
- Wood processing.
- Sawing parts.
- Assembly of the structure.
- Painting.
Wood processing
This procedure can be carried out at different stages of work: before or after creating parts from wood.
The master needs to purchase a special antiseptic impregnation that will protect the wood from:
- mold and mildew;
- decay;
- parasites.
Modern complex preparations can also be used as flame retardants, which are able to protect the material from fire. Antiseptic primers can perform a similar function, which in addition can improve the adhesion of the paintwork.
Did you know? On the territory of Russia, gazebos began to be built only in the first half of the 18th century, however, in those days similar places of rest were found only on the royal lands and adjoining sections of the Russian nobility.
The processing procedure involves the following actions:
- Remove the old coating, clean the material from dirt and dust.
- Sanding with abrasive paper.
- Apply a primer to the surface of the material with a brush, roller or a special swab.
- After drying of the first layer, the tree must be coated with impregnation a second time and let it finally dry.
Create Parts
All wooden elements of the future shop are made from prepared boards. The process of creating parts must match the records in the drawing.
The manufacture of the components of the shop is as follows:
- Prepare six identical trims to create the seat and backrest. Their parameters are 150 × 14 cm.
- Fasten the backrest on two legs. Their length is 72 cm and their width is 14 cm. The size of the apron of the legs is 36 × 14 cm.
- Use bars installed in a horizontal position. They are necessary in order to fasten the legs together. Their number is 4 pieces, and the size is 52 × 7 cm.
- For stability and rigidity of the structure, it is necessary to install a bar at the bottom of the bench parallel to the seat rails. Its parameters are 120 × 14 cm.
- When making legs, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the optimal seat height at the bench should reach 0.4 m. Since the back is tilted back, the legs necessary for the stability of the structure must have identical oblique cuts at an angle of 20 °.
- The corners of the bars need to be rounded, and the surface of the wood should be processed with a grinder. At this stage, you can saturate the material with an antiseptic.
Assembly
The considered stage of work is performed according to the drawing. First you need to assemble the legs. The distance between the front and rear parts should be 28 cm. Fastening takes place with four bars (two pieces on each side of the bench). The connection of wooden parts is carried out using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver.
Did you know? The homeland of the gazebos are considered southern countries. Such structures appeared there earlier as a shelter from the hot heat. The most luxurious designs were built in Italy and France (Versailles).
Before using them, it is recommended to drill holes so that the caps do not stick out of the wood, subject to rain. To the lower beam, you need to attach a long board that is parallel to the surface of the earth. This will provide greater rigidity. When the bench frame is ready, you need to attach three trims for the seat and two for the back.
Painting
The final stage of work in the creation of the shop is the coating of the product with varnish or oil paint. In order for this tool to serve as a good protection for the tree, the procedure for painting the bench should be carried out correctly.
This step must be performed according to the instructions:
- Get rid of defects on the surface with a putty for wood, and then polish the cleaned places.
- Shake up liquid for painting. Add colorant if necessary.
- Using a brush or paint roller, apply paint to the surface of the product. When using varnish, it is recommended to take a soft swab.
- Apply the substance evenly. After drying of the first layer it is necessary to carry out painting again.
The shop is an aesthetic and necessary element of garden design. In addition to its functionality, it can decorate the exterior of any suburban area, park or yard. Everyone can choose in a store or create their own model of street furniture with their own style, taking into account style, design, material and size.
