On the territory of the Zhytomyr region an extraordinary surge in the activity of such a pest of corn fields as the western corn beetle was recorded.

Also, this insect is known worldwide as Diabrotica, and it should be noted that in Ukraine this pest is an infrequent guest. That is why at one time, researchers could not determine with absolute accuracy which raider was terrorizing the corn fields of the region.

It will not be superfluous to note that this beetle also crept into the fields of the Volyn and Lviv regions, and is also rampant in some Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnitsa fields.

Corn Beetle Diabrotica

One of the advantages of Diabrotica, which relate to the subfamily of leaf-eating gnats, is their tiny size. Such modest dimensions give bugs the ability to skillfully hide.

And they can be detected only with the help of special studies conducted in laboratory conditions. Or try to catch corn bugs using pheromone traps.

At the moment, scientists admit that Diabrotica has not yet been invented as effective ways to deal with bugs. Therefore, first of all, in this situation, prevention and constant inspection of corn fields for the presence of a pest is important.
