Based on the data shared with the public by representatives of the public relations department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, this year over two hundred and sixty five hectares were planted with watermelons in the Altai Republic.
Mostly all Altai fields with watermelons were concentrated in the steppe regions of the region - Klyuchevsky, Bayevsky, Uglovsky, Rubtsovsky and Kulundinsky.
It should be noted that the harvest of melons and gourds, including watermelons, overcame the equator in the Altai Republic. Approaching the middle of the harvesting campaign, Altai melons mastered one hundred and fourteen hectares with watermelons.
At the same time, the farmers of the region emphasize that this year, favorable weather conditions have firmly established themselves in the vast expanses of the region, which made it possible to break last year’s harvest record.
So, it is known that in the middle of September 2018, nine hundred twenty tons of watermelons were collected, while this year, by the same date, Altai melons gathered one thousand eight hundred and forty tons of watermelons from the fields.To date, the average watermelon yield in the region is one hundred sixty-one centners per hectare worked out.
