This week, farmers in the southern regions of Ukraine began harvesting strawberries in open ground. According to EastFruit experts, fresh berry was delivered to the country's markets from Kherson, Odessa, Zaporizhzhya, Chernivtsi and Transcarpathian regions.
The price of the berry was very unstable and fluctuated even during the day, which is unusual for early strawberries, when deliveries are not yet massive.
So, farmers in the south of Ukraine on Thursday sold their products at 30-35 UAH / kg ($ 1.14-1.33 per kg), whereas a day earlier its price was 45-50 UAH / kg ($ 1, 7-1.9 per kg). At the Kopani wholesale market in the Kherson region, an unprecedented fluctuation in the wholesale prices of strawberries was observed. In one day they sank from 60 to 40 UAH / kg.In southwestern Ukraine, the price of early strawberry varieties was even lower than in the Kherson region, although it usually costs more here. And in Transcarpathia and in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, prices for berries began to rise due to increased demand for the product from wholesalers.
It was previously reported that trading companies from Belgium, Holland and Poland began to show interest in the possible import of frozen strawberries from Ukraine, anticipating a natural shortage of the product on the European market.
