Recent estimates from the UK Agriculture and Horticulture Development Council (AHDB) show that, after the harsh growing season of 2018, the level of stocks of British potatoes has declined by an average of 13% over the past five years.
However, these levels are comparable to other deficit seasons, for example, they are only slightly lower than for the same period of 2013-14 and 2015-16, but higher than in 2012-13.
The estimates of the Council for the Development of Agriculture and Horticulture show that at the end of March, the producer had stocks of 980,000 tons, which is 26% less than the previous year.At the same time, Scotland still accounts for a significant share of the total potato reserves, and about a third (34% or about 334,000 tons) belong to Scottish producers.
According to estimates, stocks in the fresh packaging and packaging market fell by 14% on average over three years (153,000 tons). AHDB analyst Aidan Wright Aidan Wright said: “As we move into the new season, all attention will be focused on early harvest. Due to the moderate weather being maintained, the landings are developing normally, and the conditions throughout the country look good. Although the general lack of precipitation is a constant problem for some regions. ”Share
