The next year will be tense for workers of Russian greenhouse complexes - the higher authorities have set the task to achieve yield indicators for the coming year in no less than 1.3 million tons of vegetable crops. Emphasis will have to be placed on the production of tomatoes and cucumbers.

“In the next few years, we will definitely increase the territory of greenhouse complexes of different generations,” says Alexey Sitnikov, head of the Greenhouses of Russia department. - Over the next few months, over 250 hectares of greenhouses for growing vegetables in closed ground will be commissioned. We intend to maintain such an annual increase in space over the next few years. ”

Sitnikov also added that in conditions of acute shortage of domestic eggplant and bell pepper on Russian trading floors, it will be necessary to focus on own cultivation of these crops. Indeed, today more than 90% of these crops, presented on the markets and in stores in Russia, are imported from abroad.

“Those greenhouse vegetables that Russia produces today cannot cover in full the volume of domestic consumer demand,” Sitnikov complains. “This is especially acute now, in the cold season, when the need for high-quality fresh vegetables is higher than ever.”
