The fourth company wants to build a liquid manure processing plant in Goldenstedt, Lower Saxony, Germany. Citizens and local politicians are protesting against these plans.
Locals show resistance to the planned construction of a manure processing plant in Goldenstedt (Fekhtinsky District), reports.
Construction of a plant in the Varenesh region is expected to begin next year. It is planned that up to 200 thousand tons of liquid manure will be processed into energy at a biogas plant annually.
Opponents of the object are afraid of stench, increased traffic and germs. More than 700 citizens and the second largest group of IGG advisers have objected to the construction of the plant. They are supported, in particular, by the Naturschutzbund (NABU). The final word will be given by the Goldenstedter Council.
For information, in Germany more than 200 million tons of manure is exported to fields and meadows every year. Farmers and enterprises must comply with the legal restrictions of the Fertilizer Ordinance (DüV) when using manure on agricultural land and are not allowed to export manure under certain weather conditions, such as floods or frosts.
With some ingredients, liquid manure when used in excessively large quantities carries various environmental risks when substances such as ammonium or nitrates penetrate deeper layers of the soil and thus can spread, for example, into ground and surface waters. According to the EU Commission, Germany ranks second in the concentration of nitrates in water in the European Union.
