Brazilian farmers exported a record-breaking 37.12 million 60 kg (132 lb) sacks of green coffee from the 2018-2019 crop, up 38.1% from the previous year.
According to a report by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Association Cecafé published on Monday, July 8, green coffee exports totaled 2.58 million bags in June, up 13.6% from the same month a year earlier.
Most of the exports were shipments of Arabica - 2.58 million bags, which is 10% more than in June 2018, but the highest growth rates were shown by the export of robusta - 385 000 bags, accounting for 35% compared to the same month last year.
“We have been able to increase our market share in both traditional markets such as Europe and in new markets in Asia,” said Nelson Carvalier, head of Cecafé.
At the same time, the Brazilian government expects that coffee production in the country in the 2019-2020 marketing year will be about 50 million bags compared to almost 62 million bags in the 2018-2019 marketing year.
Cecafé also said that there were a lot of reports about frosts from manufacturers this weekend, but it will take some time to determine the exact amount of losses. To assess the situation on the ground, agronomists will need at least five days.
