At the end of last month, a bill was approved by the National Assembly in France, according to which all companies producing food products will be required to indicate on the package the degree of quality and level of benefit of the product for humans.
The bill provides for the placement on the package of a chart that would classify a product by its nutritional qualities in five categories from “A” to “E”, with the marking “A” indicating the greatest benefit of the food product, and the mark “E” - respectively, the minimum utility.
In addition, information about the benefits of products will need to be displayed in advertisements for food products. However, a reservation is made here - with the appropriate financial contribution intended for the National Public Health Agency of the country, advertisers may not post such information.
Another point of the bill, food industry enterprises are obliged to inform the parliament annually in the form of a report about changes in the quality of their products. Based on the data provided, government agencies will develop measures aimed at reducing the level of salt, sugar, and unsaturated fatty acids in the products most bought by residents of the country.
