According to a new survey conducted by research company Censuswide, although almost all respondents (92%) eat red meat, almost half (49%) try to eat less.
The study showed that the main reasons for the reduction in red meat consumption, according to respondents, are animal welfare (26%), as well as concern about the environmental impact of agriculture (19%).
The study also revealed an increase in the number of consumers who choose meat-free meals, with 59% including meat substitutes in their diets, believing it is often inaccurate that substitutes are a healthier alternative. At the same time, in a report prepared by Action on Salt in 2018, it was found that 28% of alternative meat products exceeded the maximum target for reducing salt intake.
Along with this, almost two-thirds (64%) of Scots are concerned about the impact of veganism on the Scottish agricultural industry. At the same time, the reality is that 80% of Scotland's farmland consists of grass and farmland, not suitable for growing crops, but ideally suited for beef production.
