Bashkir young researchers are developing a mobile milk quality analyzer. The ambitious project is called Scanomilk, and its developers assure: the innovative device will accurately determine how many proteins, fats and carbohydrates are in a glass of milk and how much it is diluted with water.
What is a mobile scanner? According to scientists, their gadget is a medium-sized box equipped with a stand for a cup and a light source. In the upper part of the box is a camera that fixes a light spot on the surface of milk in a cup and transmits it with light waves of different lengths.
“Proteins, fats and carbohydrates absorb and scatter light in different ways,” the researchers explain. “Therefore, looking at the intensity of the light spot, we can use the scanner to determine the energy value and chemical composition of milk.”

At the moment, young Bashkir scientists are developing methods for calibrating the scanner, which will allow them to obtain scan results in a percentage ratio.
“The first official version of our gadget will be released in the first half of 2019,” the developers of Scanomilk assure. - It is useful to those who are tired of paying for a low-quality product and want to buy real milk, and not diluted counterfeit. The device will also be useful for athletes who monitor their diet and the amount of carbohydrates and fats in the menu. ”
In addition, the scanner will certainly become a real find for farmers who carefully monitor the quality of their products. And they will certainly be interested in employees of supermarkets, markets, kindergartens and schools.
