On Thursday, May 9, nearly 16,000 euros were handed over to an Irish farmer from Galway County after a court found that he had been sold a barren limousine.
Last week, the Tallamore County Civil Court found that, on an ad on the largest Irish site, farmer Michbel Michael Ryan bought a bull from Manigall breeder and school teacher Tom Harney on June 6, 2013.
Ryan then paid 2750 euros for the animal, minus 50 euros of “money for luck”, on the assumption that the bull was capable of breeding, and brought him to his farm in Waterloo, Menlow, where he had 22 cows. When the next November he examined the herd, not one of the cows was pregnant. Then several fertility tests were carried out, which showed conflicting results. In May 2013, the farmer put up the bull for sale, but then recalled, since no one had given him a minimum price of 3,000 euros.
Veterinarian of the seller of the animal, Imon O'Connell, in his report of September 2, 2016, said that due to injury, the bull cannot mate with cows. In the end, the bull was sent to slaughter on February 1.After a lengthy bickering of the parties and investigation of various evidence, the court established the fact of the sterility of the bull and decided to pay the injured farmer the full amount claimed - 15 826.97 euros.
This is the amount that includes the cost of the bull after slaughter and the cost of 20 calves that were not born, subject to a 10 percent probability of failure in a herd of 22 cows. The court also ruled to reimburse Ryan for legal expenses.
