In an urban-type settlement of Sutiski, Tyvrovsky district, Vinnitsa region, a family of entrepreneurs set about growing Mediterranean snails Helix Aspersa Maxima. This was reported by the press service of the Vinnitsa Regional State Administration.
The opening of a family farm for growing edible snails was made possible thanks to the regional program to support small and medium-sized businesses. FLP "Prudnik" is just beginning to work with Mediterranean snails. Financial support in the form of the allocation of 200 thousand UAH of soft loans is a good help for young businesses.
First Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration Andrey Gizhko noted that this small family-owned enterprise is a unique object not only in the Vinnitsa region, but throughout Ukraine. Vasily Prudnik and his son Maxim learn a new business based on the experience of colleagues from Lviv and Transcarpathia.For normal life and rapid weight gain, mollusks need to provide optimal conditions. To achieve commercial quality, they need only 6 months. The meat of mollusks of this species is much tastier and more tender than that of a grape snail, and the demand for it is higher, says Vasily Prudnik.With the advent of summer, young growth will be relocated from the greenhouse to open-air cages, where rapeseed, which is a green food for snails, grows. They eat mollusks and special compound feed, which allows them to grow for one season. Already at the end of September, snails will be collected and prepared for sale.
