Thanks to the abnormally warm winter in the countries of the European Union, even despite the continuing threat of frost return, a good wheat crop is expected in Europe.
European farmers have already begun early fertilizing of crops.
In France, the state of wheat sowing is assessed as good, and this plus an increase in the sown area for grain crops, provides grounds for an optimistic forecast of high gross harvest. According to the data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, 5 million hectares were sown with winter wheat this year. And this is 2.9% more than last year.In Germany, the sown area for winter wheat was also increased - by 4.6%, up to 3 million hectares. The condition of crops was generally recognized as good, although in some regions there was a shortage of soil moisture.
In Poland, favorable weather conditions also contributed to the good condition of winter crops, which were planted on areas of 2 million hectares.
In the British Isles, the picture is similar to the state of cereals. Precipitation and timely fertilizers introduced by farmers positively affected the condition of winter grains. In the country, the sown area for wheat turned out to be a record over the past five years - 1.86 million hectares.
