In western Poland, veterinary authorities have confirmed further results of a wild boar ASF study.
Bad news from Western Poland: now that further studies have been carried out, the number of officially confirmed cases of ASF in wild pigs has increased from 2 to 20.
18 new cases were discovered during a systematic search for dead boars among forests and fields in the regions of Vskhov and Nova Sol. Infected carcasses were found in nine different places in the two counties in the east of Lubusz province.
As an immediate measure, a fence that has already been built within a radius of 5 km. around the first two infections, added another external fence. In addition, the Polish army should help in the further search for the bodies of wild boars in the affected area. Some forests and bike paths are closed to visitors.
ASF affects only domestic and wild pigs; for other animals, the virus is not dangerous.
The Polish veterinary authorities agree that the discovery of the first infected wild boar on November 4 was a success. Because they approached the animal and killed him. In a routine study of his body, ASF infection became known.
If the animal died away from the road in the forest, it would probably only later become known that the ASF virus now also causes harm to Poland. Because all previous cases of the disease were concentrated in the east and northeast of the country.
- The activity of ASF and the spread of the disease in Poland is increasing every day more and more gaining momentum.
- As African swine fever spreads across many Asian and European countries, pig owners are vigilant about biological protection.
- Earlier, we already wrote that the Australian government has created a department to protect against ASF, in order to monitor the number and health of wild boars, which was called the National Wild Boar Coordinator.
