Currently, Ukraine has remained almost without cows of meat breeds. In the near future, an increase in their number is not expected, said the expert of the USAID project "Support for Agricultural and Rural Development" Evgeny Shatohin.

The main reasons for this state of affairs lie in the fact that this business is economically disadvantageous for peasants and industrial enterprises. It will take about 15 years to recoup the cost of the business project "meat cow-calf". The number of arable land in the country is constantly growing, and pasture for livestock is becoming less and less. In addition, the cultivation of such livestock is in a strong relationship with weather events.

The only hope in the business of cows of meat breeds is dairy farms, which to one degree or another use their production. This allows you to diversify risks and sources of income. For large dairy farms, there is a reason to engage in the cultivation and fattening of meat cows on their own. Smaller farms can earn on the sale of young animals aged 2-10 days as the market for professional fattening of cattle is formed, summarizes Yevgeny Shatohin.

Earlier it was reported that of the total number of cows in Ukraine, individuals of meat breeds make up only 1.3%.
